Frequently Asked Questions

If your procedure requires anesthesia, do not eat or drink anything after midnight prior to your surgery. The nursing staff will give you specific instructions on your pre-operative phone call.

In most instances you will be required to arrive 1-2 hours prior to your surgery. A member of our team will contact you the day prior to surgery with your arrival time.

Yes! Our surgery center representative will call you prior to your surgery day to discuss your insurance benefits and patient responsibility.

Patients are responsible for paying any applicable co-pays, co-insurance, and deductible. You’ll receive a call prior to your surgery day with your specific information.

Bring your Driver’s License or ID Card and Medical Insurance Card. This allows us to identify you as the patient and is also required by law. Beacon is a cashless facility, so please also bring a method of payment.

Please bring cases/holders for your glasses, dentures, or hearing aids (if applicable). Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing and shoes with a back on them.

You will not be allowed to drive for at least 24 hours following your procedure; therefore, you will need a responsible adult (over the age of 18) to drive you home and to stay with you for at least the first 24 hours, unless otherwise instructed. We ask that your responsible party remain at the surgery center during your stay with us to allow your physician to provide instructions and information regarding your procedure and post-operative care. Taxi, Uber or Lyft transportation is NOT permitted unless you are accompanied by a responsible adult.

Leave all valuables at home.

The Beacon Surgery Center Staff will communicate updates throughout your stay to your spouse or loved one. They can also request a status update by speaking with our receptionist or another member of our staff.

Please wear clean, comfortable, loose-fitting clothes on the day of your surgery. Please wear shoes with a back on them. The nursing staff will give you any specific instructions on the pre-operative phone call.

Unless your surgeon or nurse instructs you not to take medications, you should take your regular medications. The nursing staff will give you additional instructions on your pre-operative phone call, including how to take your medications to prepare for surgery.

Yes, if you will be receiving anesthesia you will not be allowed to drive for 24 hours. Please plan for an adult to bring you to the center and drive you home. You will need to have someone with you for the next 24 hours.

If your physician prescribes you medication, you will receive a prescription the day of your surgery to take to your pharmacy to be filled.

All children under the age of 18 years will need a parent or guardian to stay with them throughout their stay.
Only ONE visitor per patient, except for pediatric patients.

If you are a female of childbearing age, a urine specimen will be required upon your arrival at the Surgery Center. Please inform the front desk should you need to use the restroom before being escorted into the pre-op area.

Pain. You will have pain after surgery. We will do our best to make your pain tolerable, but you will likely not be pain-free when you leave the Surgery Center.

Prescriptions. Your Surgeon may send an electronic prescription to your pharmacy after your surgery. It is important to have your accurate pharmacy on file with the Physician’s office before your surgery date to avoid delays in getting your prescriptions.

A limited stay with us. Recovery time after surgery is typically about 15 minutes after your procedure is done. You may be sleeping for most of this time, so it may feel like your time with us was short. Of course, if needed, you are always welcome to stay longer.

You will not speak with your Surgeon after surgery. The only time you will get a chance to speak with your Surgeon is prior to surgery, so ask all your questions then. They may update your family on how your procedure went, but will not see you until your follow-up visit in the office.
